KATHMANDU, AUGUST 22
Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led CPN-Maoist Centre and Madhav Kumar Nepal-led CPN (Unified Socialist) today decided to form a party unity coordination committee to work on the unification of their parties.
CPN-MC leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha said the two parties had reached a conclusion that they should unify. Unification will be announced after the parliamentary and provincial elections scheduled for November 20. Top leaders of the two parties held a meeting today and decided to merge their outfits. CPN (Unified Socialist) was formed after Nepal and leaders close to him split from the CPN-UML.
According to Shrestha, CPN-MC and CPN (US) will contest the upcoming parliamentary and provincial elections on the basis of a common election manifesto.
The five-party ruling alliance is also trying to have a common election manifesto. Both the CPN-MC and CPN (US) are part of the ruling alliance.
Shrestha said the seat sharing arrangement would be made through the five-party alliance and not on the basis of understanding between the CPN-MC and the CPN (US).
