Patients treated on floors amid chronic bed shortage

KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 23

Dailekh District Hospital is struggling to cope with a surge in patients, with many forced to receive treatment on floors and chairs due to a severe shortage of beds.

Although the hospital expanded its capacity to 65 beds, it currently accommodates more than 150 patients daily.

Construction of a new hospital block-budgeted at Rs 182.4 million and launched four years ago-remains unfinished.

Officials cite contractor delays and legal disputes as reasons for the slow progress.

Local leaders have warned that no further deadline extensions will be granted and are pressing for immediate completion to ease the crisis.
