KATHMANDU, JUNE 2
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has called on all state bodies to effectively implement laws and policies aimed at eliminating racial discrimination and untouchability.
In a message of best wishes on the occasion of the National Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and Untouchability, PM Dahal emphasized the responsibility of all three tiers of government to enforce the necessary laws. "I make a special appeal to all levels of government to include Dalit empowerment programs in their policies, programs, and budgets, and to enforce laws against discrimination," PM Dahal highlighted in the message.
The Prime Minister reiterated that Dalit communities deserve priority rights to compensation and should be guaranteed their socioeconomic and cultural rights without any hindrances.
He reminded that the state has a policy of positive discrimination and noted that a scheme to establish a Dalit Development Authority was included in the government's policies and programs.
The Prime Minister also stressed that Dalit campaigns should continue to monitor state activities to ensure their struggle for justice is realized soon.
