Damauli bazar shut
Damauli, November 2
Local traders closed Damauli bazar in Tanahun today.
The traders shut the bazaar, saying that Federation of Indigenous Nationalities District Coordination Committee had taken the decision to organise Indigenous Nationalities and Tourism Festival from November 16 to 26 without consulting them.
It is learnt that traders from Damauli are unhappy as the federation ignored Tanahun chapter of Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry and took the decision unilaterally.
The market was closed at the call of Tanahun chapter of FNCCI and Industry’s Market Unit Committee.
Damauli Market Unit chair Raj Kumar Shrestha said commercial stalls would not be kept at the festival of the indigenous nationalities. The holding of the festival every year has hit businesses hard. So, they will keep stalls that reflect their traditions and culture, Shrestha stated.
Meanwhile, Federation of Indigenous Nationalities Tanahun chair Basundhara Gharti said that they would go ahead with the festival this year. “A meeting held at the municipality between two sides to settle the dispute ended inconclusively,” a trader said.
