DAO security for displaced partymen

BARDIYA: District Administration Office, Bardiya, is all set to provide security to the cadres of the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML, who have fled from several VDCs in the district following the threat of UCPN-Maoist cadres.

The Maoist cadres have been threatening the supporters of the NC and the UML following their party’s ouster from the government in the army chief row.

The DAO decided to provide security to the displaced party cadres after they filed an application demanding security for them.

Bardiya CDO Bed Bahadur Karki said the DAO would arrange necessary security for the displaced party cadres.

“We have also launched an investigation against the persons involved in threatening the cadres of the other parties. They thrashed cadres of the other parties and also seized property from some of them. We have already identified some of them,” Karki added.

He said the DAO was considering to set up a base camp of the Armed Police Force in Manau VDC as demanded by the locals.

Former chairman of Manau VDC is also taking shelter at the district headquarters due to the intimidation of the Maoist cadres.

Nepali Congress, Bardiya, claimed that the Maoist cadres had thrashed its five supporters and also looted their property.

“The Maoist cadres thrashed Anantaram Tharu of Beluwa, Krishna Poudel and Keshab Poudel of Manau and told them to leave their house,” said Arunsingh Rathaur, district chairman of Nepali Congress.

He also claimed that the Maoist cadres had thrashed Basantaraj Bhatta of Manau after abducting him. They also looted cash from him, according to Bhandari.

“I request the cadres of UCPN-Maoist not to thrash the supporters of other parties in connection to the army chief issue,” he added.

He said many supporters of his party were languishing in district headquarters Gulariya for the fear of Maoist cadres.
