DDC stops aid distribution
Sindhupalchock, Dec 17:
The Sindhupalchowk District Development Committee has stopped distribution of economic support for disaster victims, saying it has already distributed the funds earmarked for this fiscal.
The District Development Committee has provided economic support more than it had targeted in course of four months of this fiscal, a source at the DDC said. “As the DDC distributed over Rs 1 lakh by mid-November, we have been compelled to stop the support,” said LDO Ramji Prasad Baral.
The DDC can distribute one per cent of its internal income as economic support, Baral said. The DDC had been providing anywhere between Rs 50 and Rs 300 to disaster victims of the district. Four persons were given Rs 1000 to Rs 10,000 during the four months, Baral said, adding that the funds are exhausted because non-affected people have managed to collect cash. The Sindhupalchowk District Administration Office has the authority to distribute
Rs 460,500 as compensation this fiscal. Out of 289 recipients, 228 had taken compensation saying that their houses were damaged due to rainfall, said accountant of the District Administration Office Tolendra Karki. The administration distributed Rs 577,250 as economic support last year, said CDO Narayan Prasad Baral.
