KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 21

Efforts are underway to clear a landslide that blocked the Tuin River bridge section of the Narayangadh–Muglin road Friday evening, halting traffic on one of Nepal's busiest highways.

Five excavators-three from the Muglin side and two from Narayangadh-began removing debris early Saturday, said Narayan Lamichhane, chief of the Division Road Office. If no further slides occur, the road is expected to reopen by afternoon.

The dry landslide struck near Ichchakamana Rural Municipality-6, stranding passengers and vehicles on a route used by more than 10,000 vehicles daily.

District police spokesperson DSP Rabindra Khanal said food and drinking water are being distributed to those stuck along the highway under the coordination of the local administration.
