Decision to sack CoAS a mistake: Veep

Tanahun, May 13:

Vice President Paramananda Jha today said Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s decision to sack Chief of Army Staff Rookmangud Katawal without the approval of the cabinet was a mistake.

Speaking at a press meet organised in Dulegauda, Jha said the prime minister had failed to take other parties into confidence on CoAS row. “It is his weakness,” he added.

However, Jha opted not to speak on the President’s decision to reinstate the army chief.

“It is not the right time to speak, as the case is sub-judice,” he said, adding, “I can’t decide whether the President’s or the PM’s move was a good one.”

“We should move ahead with national consensus and let the House function. The political parties should be flexible to end the present impasse. The party leaders should work for the welfare of the nation and the people,” Jha said.

Earlier, the Vice President urged the party leaders to forge a consensus to resolve the present political crisis.

Talking to mediapersons at Pokhara airport today, Jha said,

“I can’t speak much as my role is apolitical.”

Responding to a query on whether the decision taken by the President or the Prime Minister was correct, Jha said, “Only the Supreme Court can decide that.”
