Delayed peace bid worries conduct code monitor

Kathmandu, August 19:

Coordinator of the Nepal Intellectuals’ Forum Dr KB Rokaya today expressed concern over the delayed peace process despite a number of understandings reached between the seven-party alliance and the Maoists.

“People fear that the peace process could be derailed due to the mistrust between the leaderships of the concerned parties,” Rokaya said at a press conference, adding, “The mutual mistrust has given the foreign powers an opportunity to meddle.”

Appealing to the SPA constituents and the Maoists to abide by the agreements they had reached, he called on both the parties to expedite the peace process.

He warned that the country could again plunge into conflict if the political actors failed to move in the right direction.

Rokaya also asked the international community and diplomats not to issue any statement in violation of the ceasefire code of conduct.
