Dengue, scrub typhus cases surge

Dengue and scrub typhus cases have been on the rise in Dhading district.
As per data with the District Public Health Office, as many as 21 persons, including nine women, were infected with dengue in the district. “Dengue cases have been reported from areas near the district headquarters. “We don’t have any records of dengue cases from other places of the district,” said District Public Health Officer Bishnu Rijal.
“Patients along the Prithvi Highway and its vicinity go to places such as Kathmandu and Chitwan for treatment. We can’t say for sure how many people have contracted dengue in the district,” he said.
With the spread of dengue, District Public Health Office and all 13 local bodies have started campaign to raise awareness among public about the disease.
Similarly, as many as 36 persons, including 21 females and 15 males, have contracted scrub typhus in the district, according to data with the district hospital.
According to doctors, scrub typhus spreads to humans from the bite of mites found in wild rats.
