Deuba should not become PP leader: Gagan Thapa

CHITWAN: Nepali Congress leader and lawmaker Gagan Thapa on Saturday has remarked that party President Sher Bahadur Deuba should not be the parliamentary party leader.

Speaking with the journalists in Bharatpur, Thapa said that a same person holding two posts in the party would be a wrong practice.

"At this moment, we have a challenge of taking the party forward by strengthening it. Thus, it would be difficult to achieve this goal if one person has two important posts. Deuba will not be able to function properly if he holds two posts," said former Health Minister Thapa.

He also cleared that he was not suggesting Deuba not to be PP leader just because NC could not do well in the recently held elections.

"A party cannot compete against leftist government formed with majority of the votes, with a leader in two important positions," added Thapa.

Likewise, Thapa also said that his party will support or protest the government depending upon the pros and cons of the latter. "NC should stay as strong opposition and monitor the government on whether it is being run in accordance with constitutional provisions or not," clarified Thapa.
