Deuba, Sitaula for timely CA polls

Dang, January 20:

Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula said today that election to the constitution assembly would be held on time.

Sitaula, who reached here to observe the security situation, told journalists that all the police posts in mid-western region would be re-established by February 8.

“The main responsibility of the government is to provide security and the government is capable of doing that,” he said, adding that only the CA polls would solve all problems facing the nation.

He said that the interim government and the parliament cannot fulfill all the demands raised by several groups and parties.

“Putting forward demands is natural during the transitional period and everybody can do this in a peaceful manner,” he said, but also warned of strong actions against anyone resorting to violence.

Sitaula also said that the government is responsible to address the rightful demands raised by the Madhesi people. Successful CA election would open the door for lasting peace in the country, he said.

A report from Dang quoted former prime minister and Nepali Congress leader, Sher Bahadur Deuba, as saying at a press conference organised by the Dang chapter of Nepal Press Union in Tulasipur today that the role of media is significant to give a render the CA polls successful.

“Media persons had played an important role in the Janaandolan II. Now, they should play the same role for the succession of constituent assembly election,” he said. Media persons should discourage the elements who are anti-constituent assembly election, he said.

To a question asked on Tarai unrest, Deuba said that all the communities, barring a few ones, would participate in the CA polls.

“The demands of Tarai have been fulfilled. We should not doubt about CA polls just

because of few explosions,”

he said, adding, that there is no meaning of taking to agitation when the demands on citizenship, federal state system and election system have been addressed.

Deuba denied the assertion of Maoist senior leader Mohan Baidya (Kiran) who have been saying that there is no guarantee of the CA polls since the security situation is quite critical. “The election will be held at any cost,” he said.
