Deuba to ‘sacrifice’ for Koirala
Biratnagar, October 26:
Former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress leader Sher Bahadur Deuba today said he would have no objection if party chairman Girija Prasad Koirala wanted to lead the party in parliament again.
“I will not object if the octogenarian leader wants to lead the party again in the parliament,” Deuba told a press meet organised here today by the Morang chapter of the Nepal Press Union. Nepali Congress has not been able to elect a parliamentary party leader so far even as six months have already passed since the CA election.
“I won’t stand as a barrier if Girijababu wished to lead the party in the parliament,” Deuba added. Talking about the integration of the People’s Liberation Army combatants into the national army, Deuba said the Nepal Army (NA) could accept the PLA fighters if the latter met the NA’s recruitment standards. “However, PLA fighters, as a political army, cannot be integrated en bloc into the national army,” Deuba clarified, adding that alternatives have to be searched for the PLA combatants who do not meet the NA’s recruitment standards.
Accusing the CPN-Maoist of creating anarchy, Deuba blamed Prime Minister and Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ of trying to impose a dictatorship. “A handful of communists cannot introduce People’s Republic in the country,” Deuba added.
