Development works hampered Rastriya Samachar Samiti
The construction work of roads and a ring road linking the municipality and 51 village development committees of Dolakha district has been hampered as a result of the destruction of a bulldozer purchased with the cooperation of all the Village Development Committees (VDCs), municipality and district development committee (DDC).
The bulldozer that had been purchased by the DDC with loan assistance from Nepal Bank Ltd was pushed over a cliff and set fire to by Maoist terrorists while it was being used to build the Chaichap portion of the Mude-Melung-Sitali road at Farku VDC.
The 35km Dolakha-Sigati road, which had been impending completion for the past 12 years by the government and local bodies, was completed in just three months with the help of new bulldozer.
The people of 21 VDCs of the northern part of Dolakha have benefited tremendously from the newly available transport services being run on the Dolakha-Sigati road. This section also contains the entry road to ‘Thulo Tamakoshi hydroelectricity project’.
The Dolakha-Sigati-Lamabagar road falls under a national priority programme regarding the construction of five north-south highways under the 20-year central road master plan, according to District Development Committee chairman Lal Kumar KC.
Meanwhile various social institutions and government units are involved in the construction of the ring road, which is linking agricultural pocket areas, tourist sites, forests, hydroelectric points and market areas of the district.
VDC, Rural Community Infrastructure Development Programme (RCIDP), Local Development Trust, District Road Assistance Programme (DRAP) and the Division Road Office (DRO) for the construction of the Dolakha-Sigati portion of the road in the fiscal year 2058/59 allocated a sum of Rs 6,974,167.
Likewise, VDC, DRAP and DRO allocated a sum of Rs 6,448,773 for the construction of Mude-Melung-Sitali road in the same fiscal year, according to the DDC.
In the same manner, the RCIDP has allocated 215 metric tonnes of rice to feed the workers constructing the Kavre-Jhayanku-Sigati road, whilst a sum of Rs 3,545,871 was allocated for the construction of the Bhirkot-Chhaude Khawa road. The RCIDP also provided an additional 372 metric tonnes of rice, according to DDC.
