Dhading police have seized 25 kilograms of marijuana and arrested three persons in an operation carried out to restrict illegal sale of the contraband from the hotels and eateries along the Prithvi Highway in Dhading, on Thursday.
After obtaining information that marijuana was being sold openly in restaurants and hotels along the route, police initiated a special campaign to stop the illegal activities.
During the campaign, police from the Area Police Office in Gajuri, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bhavesh Rimal, raided Jayram Staff Hotel in Gajuri Rural Municipality-2, Hira Hotel and Lodge, Ayush Hotel and Thakuri Hotel in Furkekhola, and Khilanath Tripathi's hotel in Benighat Rorang-3, seizing 25 kilograms of marijuana and a digital scale.
The hotel owners were also detained and held in judicial custody after being presented before the Dhading District Court, according to DSP Rimal.
Sani Adhikari (47) of Jayaram Staff Hotel, Hotraj Sedai (43), of Ayush Hotel, Hiramaya Lamsal (47), of Hira Hotel, and Bed Kumar Shahi (61) of Thakuri Hotel were detained by police. Khilnath Tripathi (55), the owner of the Benighat Rorang-3 based hotel, was also apprehended during the operation.
Prior to this, on Friday, police in Adamghat had confiscated 10.4 kg of marijuana and detained one woman for illegal possession.
