Diarrhoea outbreak claims infant
Terhathum, April 30:
An infant boy died of diarrhea today morning due to lack of medical treatment. Diarrhea has taken an epidemic proportion in Wards No 8 and 9 of Oyankyung VDC, located in eastern Terhathum.
“Tanka Prasad Dhakal’s nine-month-old son, Kamal, died due to lack of medical treatment,” VDC secretary Bishnu Adhikari said. According to health assistant at the District
hospital, Dhan Raj Yadav, the infant died since he was not brought to the hospital on time.
At least 25 persons are affected in the area, which is four hours away from the district headquarters Myanglung.
Another six-month-old boy was critically sick and was taken to Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences as doctor was not present in the district hospital.
“Treatment was not possible in the hospital, as two physicians at the hospital — Bhoj Raj Gautam and Sujata Niraula — are out of the district,” Yadav said. He said a team led by assistant health worker, Ganesh Budhathoki, was dispatched to treat the affected patients.
