Diarrhoea:11 more die, toll 133

JAJARKOT: Eleven more people died of diarrhoea in the district Thursday. With this, the total toll due to the disease has reached 133.

Dr Krishnahari Subedi, chief, District Health Office, informed that medical teams from the Health Ministry, the Nepal Police, the Armed police Force and Peoples Liberation Army were running camps in 17 different places of the district. The disease, however, showed no sign of abating, he added.

According to Iswor Prasad Upadhaya, the condition of patients was deteriorating as the places affected by diarrhoea were also bearing the brunt of acute shortage of food. Political parties have accused the Diarrhoea Control Committee of not being able to handle the crisis situation responsibly.

Meanwhile, Mandari Bista, 75, died of diarrhoea in Belapur VDC of Dadeldhura district last night. Death toll in the district in the last two weeks due to the disease has reached three. According to District Health Office, more than 100 people have been affected by the disease in the district. The disease has also been detected in Koteli Manilek area and the district headquarters. Officer at District Heath Office Shreekrishna Bhatta said that the disease might have persisted due to consumption of unsafe drinking water and stale food.
