Kathmandu, November 23:

The Supreme Court today quashed Section 7 of the Women’s Property Chapter of Muluki Ain 2063 that barred women from handing over their properties to persons of their choice and getting married to the latter thereafter.

Responding to a writ petition filed by advocate Meera Dhungana on behalf of the Forum for Women and Development, a special bench comprising Justices Anup Raj Sharma, Khil Raj Regmi and Sharada Shrestha issued the order.

The section had authorised parents and parental relatives of women to lay claim over their properties if they get married.
