Disgruntled locals protest rampant road expansion
DAMAULI: Locals became aggressive after Bandipur Rural Municipality started to expand the Dumre-Bandipur road section without proper planning, in Tanahun.
Locals said the rural municipality did not discuss with the people of the locality and started the road expansion work without meeting the criteria and without any proper planning.
Around 28 households started the movement after the rural municipality started demolishing physical infrastructure.
The road was supposed to be expanded by eight metres, but houses along the road section were being destroyed in the name of road expansion. They have demanded a halt to the work as it has affected households.
The disgruntled locals also filed a case in the district court after they were dissatisfied with the work of the rural municipality. Senior lawyer Kamala Mohan Wagle said the court had given verdict to stop the work.
Meanwhile, Chairman Purna Singh Thapa of Bandipur Rural Municipality said, “Sometimes there might be ups and down on the way to development.” — HNS
