Dispute settled, traffic resumes
Gaighat, October 11:
Traffic on the Katari-Okhaldhunga road section resumed this morning after 48 hours. Vehicular movement had been obstructed following a dispute between the Maoists and transport entrepreneurs.
“The dispute ended after the Maoists apologised to the transport entrepreneurs when they realised that due to the row more than 1,000 passengers had been stranded at Ghumtitar of Udaypur on Tuesday,” said Sang Dorje Tamang, a worker of the Himali Bus Entrepreneurs, Katari. The stranded passengers left for their destinations after the traffic resumed, Tamang said. Traffic on the road section had come to a halt when Maoists cadres beat up about half-a-dozen transport workers, injuring them, on Monday.
“The Maoists beat up the workers and also vandalised the ticket counter. Then a clash occurred between the Maoists and us. Some Maoist cadres also were injured,” said a transport worker, Tilak Bahadur Magar. The Maoists are yet to comment on the issue.
