KATHMANDU, JANUARY 5

The District Administration Office, Parsa, has imposed a curfew in Birgunj Metropolitan City, effective from 6:00 pm today until 8:00 am tomorrow.

The curfew was enforced after protests continued despite a prohibitory order issued earlier at 1:00 pm. Parsa Chief District Officer Bhola Dahal said the decision was taken to maintain law and order amid the potential risk of tension between two communities.

According to the local administration, all gatherings, processions and sit-ins are strictly prohibited within the designated areas: Bus Park in the east, Sirsiapul in the west, Powerhouse Chowk in the north, and Shankaracharya Gate in the south.

The administration clarified that vehicles providing essential services will be permitted to operate during the curfew period.

Earlier today, the District Administration Office had issued a prohibitory order banning all assemblies, meetings, rallies and demonstrations across Birgunj Metropolitan City from 1:00 pm until further notice.
