Emphasis has been laid on promoting the diverse culture of Madhes. During discussion on a working paper presented in the second assembly of Nepal Progressive Professors Association of Madhes Province in Bardibas of Mahottari recently, the participants emphasised on the promotion of different languages, culture, art, and literature of Madhes.

In the opening session of the assembly, Reader Kishore Kumar Shah presented a paper on 'Higher Education in Madhes Province' while Reader Hira Lal Karn presented a paper on 'Madhes Culture and Social Transformation'.

Inaugurating the assembly, Central Secretary of CPN-UML Raghubir Mahaseth said that the language, literature, art, culture and economics of Madhes held a notable place in the development of civilisation in Nepal. He said that history confirmed that during the Malla period, the opinions of the scholars of Madhes were taken in the security and finance departments.

Participants at the programme insisted on learning from the past, when Maithili language dramas were staged in the palace during the Malla period and scholars from Madhes participated in the poetry conference.
