Hetauda, August 5

The data at Makawanpur District Court show that divorce cases have increased in the district in recent years.

Various factors have been attributed to the increase in the number of divorce cases in the district. As per the data with the court, as many as 224 divorce cases were filed with the court in the last fiscal.

“Of the cases, 75 were settled while the remaining are pending,” said the court registrar Anantaraj Marasini. The number of divorce cases stood at 189 in the district in the fiscal 2071/72.

Of those cases, 157 were settled in the same fiscal while the remaining cases were settled in the last fiscal. According to the court registrar, teenagers as well as people in their 50s and 60s have filed cases seeking separation.

“Of those who come for divorce, some women’s husbands are working abroad while others’ relationship has turned sour due to extramarital affairs and abuse of internet and various other social networking sites,” said Marasini.

He added that most of the women seeking divorce did not have babies.
