Kathmandu, July 6:

The National Human Rights Commission is waiting for a Deoxyribo Nucleic Acid (DNA) report to determine whether the body exhumed from Kavrepalanchowk district is that of Hari Prasad Bolakhe.

The security forces allegedly murdered and buried Bolakhe, who was in their custody. “We have handed over the body to medical experts for DNA tests at the Forensic Lab and we are waiting for the report,” said Yagya Prasad Adhikari, NHRC’s protection division chief.

It would be premature to say anything more concerning the body since the case is still under investigation, according to him. The NHRC decided to trace the body after a complaint regarding his alleged killing by the security forces was lodged at the commission, he said.

The NHRC team, including its member Sudip Pathak and medical experts — Dr Harihar Osti and Dr Pramod Shrestha — found the body in Chalan VDC 1, Sallaphed, Kavrepalanchowk district on Wednesday.

“If the DNA tests prove the allegations, the guilty security personnel should be brought to book and should not enjoy impunity at any cost,” he said. Bolakhe of Phulbari VDC-8, Kavrepalanchwok district, who was detained by the security forces on December 27, 2003 from Banepa, had reportedly been missing.
