Dolakha teacher playing hookey for past one year

Charikot, February 17:

A teacher is yet to present himself at the school he was recently transferred to by the District Education Committee. The concerned persons in Dolakha have complained of his absence saying that it has affected regular classes. But the concerned authorities are yet to take any action against him.

The central regional education directorate is not interested in taking actions against the absent teacher who has not shown himself up at the school only because he is affiliated to a political party.

The seven members of the education committee sent a letter to the member secretary of the district education committee today asking it to convene a meeting to discuss the issue. Such meetings have been scheduled before as well, but one is yet to take place. This indicates that attempts are being made to protect such teachers.

Members of the district education committee - Chok Bahadur Dahal, Arjun Bahadur Basnet, Bhabendra Karki, Shanker Lal Shrestha, Tara Bahadur Karki, Suresh Prasad Bhandari and Bal Kumari Shrestha - said at a press meet that the educational grant for the primary schools due this academic year has not been released even as the academic year is nearing its end.

A member of the district education committee and president of the teachers’ union, Shanker Lal Shrestha, said all appraisals needed to be made prior to the Education Day on February 24. Earlier, the teachers’ union, Dolakha, submitted a memorandum to DEO.
