Donation terror in Sindhuli hampers government work

SINDHULI: Government employees in the district are a terrified lot owing to rampant donation drive, of late.

Cadres of he UCPN-Maoist, Nepali Congress, and the CPN-UML have been demanding donations in government offices citing various reasons.

Bal Bahadur Karki, a staffer at the District Education Office, said that at least two groups come to the office daily demanding donation.

“We are tired of providing donations,’’ he said, adding, ‘’Different wings of the same party come demanding money for various purposes, including going for a picnic, meetings, conventions and tours.’’ Such groups do not even show the records of the donation.

There are seven education institutions in Madi, the district headquarters. Government staffers said that their daily work has been affected as student wings of different parties come to ask for donations daily.

Janak Dhakal, engineer at the Water Induced Disaster Prevention Project, said, ‘’It is very difficult to deal with such groups if the office chief and the accountant are absent.’’ “Two groups have

come for donation today only,” he added.

Balaram Mandal, a staffer at the land mapping office said they are facing problems in working in the office due to the rampant donation drive in the district.

Bhupal Baral, executive officer, Kamalamai Municipality, said that the culture of demanding donations has increased in the district of late.

Informing that the council meeting had allocated some budget for donations, he said, “it will be difficult for us after the allocated budget depletes.”
