DPM Nidhi tells far-west officials to ensure free and fair elections

DHANGADHI: Minister for Home Affairs Bimalendra Nidhi on Sunday instructed the government officials and security personnel in the far western region to make security arrangements for the May 14 local elections as per the central security plan.

Inaugurating a two-day regional symposium in Dhangadhi, the Deputy Prime Minister stated that central security plan was prepared in order to conduct the elections in free and fair manner.

Saying the government has given top priority to the local level elections, which are going to be held for the first time after the state restructuring, Nidhi pointed out the need for building an environment in which all stakeholders -- voters, election officials, contestants and political parties -- would feel secure.

Also speaking at the programme, Home Secretary Lok Darshan Regmi informed that all security personnel will be deputed under the command of regional and local administrations as per the central security plan.

He asked the officials to make security arrangements at polling stations, wards, districts and the region by assessing potential security threat.

Regional administrator, nine Chief District Officers, and security Officials in the far western region are taking part in the symposium.

Chiefs of the Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and National Investigation Department and a Brigadier General of Nepal Army also attended the function.
