KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Kamal Thapa told lawmakers and intellectuals of Israel that Nepal's Constitution promulgated in September last year was comprehensive, inclusive and substantive.

Addressing a talk programme organised by the Israel Council on Foreign Relations in Jerusalem on Thursday, Thapa said the Constitution making process was broad-based, transparent and consultative.

"In terms of the content, the Constitution is comprehensive, inclusive, and substantive; in terms of orientation, it is forward-looking, progressive and dynamic," the Tel Aviv-based Nepali Embassy quoted Thapa in its statement.

The programme was attended by members of Knesset (the Parliament of Israel), intellectuals, academics, friends of Nepal in Israel, members of diplomatic community and other renowned personalities, according to the Embassy.

Mentioning that Nepal was the first South Asian country to recognise the existence of Israel by maintaining continued diplomatic relations, Thapa also appreciated the people of Israel for their creativity and entrepreneurship.

Meanwhile, addressing another meeting organised by the Federation of Israeli Chambers of Commerce on Thursday afternoon, Thapa said that there was an overwhelming consensus in Nepal that economic agenda should now be on top and foreign investment was vital.

Thapa also claimed that Nepal was an attractive destination for investment and business also due to the incentives offered by the Government of Nepal.

Israeli businesspersons and investors present in the programme said that they were ready to collaborate with Nepali businesspersons to invest in Nepal and some shared their experiences of doing business with Nepal, according to the Embassy.

Meanwhile, Thapa-led delegation including Foreign Secretary Shankar Das Bairagi left Israel for Turkey yesterday afternoon to participate in the High-Level Midterm Review of the Istanbul Programme of Action to be held in Antalya, Turkey from May 27 to 29, 2016.
