Drinking water crunch hits Salyan

SALYAN: As many as 250 households at Danda Gaun Malneta in Salyan district have been hit hard by drinking water shortage due to lack of proper maintenance of a water supply project in the locality. The village has only one Drinking Water Project, brought in operation since 1988 at a cost of Rs 3 million. Although there were some 45 taps constructed in the locality, water runs in none of the taps, creating a ‘water-woe’ situation for the locals. Gyandev Gharti, one of the locals, said that one has to rely on the well and pond, available in limited number, to fetch drinking water. The locals walk some two hours to fetch a bucket of water. Another local Krishna Giri added that although the village was famous for ginger farming, it lacked water for irrigation and for household use.

466 households aided

THUMPAKHAR: Maiti Nepal and AWO jointly distributed relief materials to 466 households in wards no 1 and 2 of Thumpakhar VDC in the district on Thursday. The relief items were provided especially to families of single, illiterate and backward women.
