Drive against smoking

Dadeldhura, January 29

District Police Office, Dadeldhura, launched a campaign in collaboration with the local Social Unity Club against smoking in public places at the district headquarters, Baghkhor, and its adjoining areas.

A team led by DSP Chakra Prasad Joshi today caught six smokers from Pokhara, Kirmane, Tufandanda, Baghkhor, Syaule and Bhatkada and fined them Rs 100 each.

The team also cautioned six shops selling tobacco, cigarettes and gutkha and running without obtaining licence.  DSP Joshi said police had warned the shopkeepers to stop sale of tobacco-related items and register their businesses with the concerned government agencies.

He said his office had issued directive to all police posts in the district to bring smokers to book. The club’s Chair Rabindra KC said the drive was launched to keep youths from drug abuse.
