Rajbiraj, July 17

Saptari police has launched Police My Friend campaign in the district with the aim of maintaining harmonious relations with the general public, which had somewhat deteriorated during the Madhes agitation a few months ago.

Saptari Chief District Officer Bal Dev Gautam inaugurated the campaign by lighting an oil lamp on the premises of the District Police Office today. Security personnel of all 48 units of the district will be mobilised simultaneously to make the campaign a grand success, according to SP Bhim Prasad Dhakal.

In the first phase, the police have set a programme to reach every household in the district. They aim to reach 102,110 households of five municipalities and as many as 91 VDCs of the district within a month.

They also plan to paste stickers containing police contact number in every house, exchange contact numbers with local households and hold brief interactions with locals, among others.

The main objective of the campaign launched a week ago is to strengthen police-civilian relations in order to maintain peace, law and order by eradicating criminal activities in the country.

“Peace and law and order can be established only after relations between police and civilians are harmonious. Such campaign will be worthwhile to ensure public’s access to police and curb criminal activities,” claimed SP Dhakal.

Locals expressed confidence that the campaign would be a milestone in unifying Saptari residents and the police administration.

The locals, security personnel and leaders of different political parties, who had experienced rift until a few months ago, are now committed to stand unified and stay together with the campaign’s launch in the district.
