Driver killed as truck plunges 800m in Makawanpur
HETAUDA: A person was killed after a truck fell off a steep cliff near Simbhanjyang section along the Tribhuvan Highway in Makawanpur district, in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The truck (Ba 4 Kha 6117) heading towards Kathmandu from Hetauda, fell around 800 metres below the road in Jhilgadi area, killing its driver on the spot at 3:00 am today, according to the District Police Office, Makawanpur.
The identity of the driver is yet to be established. His body has been taken to Hetauda, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dillip Jha said.
Assistant driver of the truck, Anil Balami (25) of Thaha Municipality-1 in Makawanpur has sustained critical injuries.
Balami was receiving treatment at a health institution in Pulung area from where he was referred to Kathmandu, police said.
There were no passengers aboard the truck at the time of the incident that occurred at the distance of 10 km from Simbhanjyang.
