Drug abuse among young girls unabated in Banke

BANKE: Drug abuse among young girls has gone unchecked in Banke district of late.

According to organisations working against drug abuse in the district, the number of young girls abusing drug is on the rise by the day.

Rabindra Singh Rathor, coordinator of the Asahaya Sewa Kendra, an organisation working against drug abuse, said that mostly girls studying from the seventh grade to the Plus Two (higher secondary) level have been found involving in such illegal activity.

He said that around 31 women and young girls abusing drug are receiving counselling and treatment in various Banke-based rehabilitation centres. Most of them are from the middle class families, he added.

The organisations providing counselling and treatment to the drug abusers said that names of the drug abusers have not been disclosed for their security and social stigma attached to this illegal practice.
