Early Warning System to be installed in Kaligandaki and Modi Rivers

FALEBAS: The Early Warning System (EWS) is to be installed in two big rivers in Parbat district where there are higher chances of flooding due to the increasing water current and level this season.

A meeting of the Disaster Relief Committee held at the District Administration Office on Thursday took the decision to set up the system in the rivers within this fiscal year. The EWS is to be set up in the Kaligandaki River and Modi Rivulet that flows through Parbat district.

Assistant Chief District Officer Praveen Dhakal said, the Preparations are well under way to set the system.

The Kaligandaki River alone has posed threats to human settlements in and around Baribeni, Milanchowk, Farse, Maldhunga, Sahashradhara, Modibeni, Imichaur and Shaligram Sheela area in the northern and southern belt of district.

Likewise, the Modi Rivulet has threatened the human settlements at Dimuwa, Birethanti, Ambot, Dobilla and Modibeni, among others.
