EC holds orientation for political parties

Kathmandu, October 7

The Election Commission today organised an orientation for political parties with a view to sensitise them with the process of fielding proportional representation candidates for the provincial and parliamentary elections scheduled for November 26 and December 10.

The EC had called 44 political parties in the orientation programme. The EC will organise similar orientation programme for other 44 political parties tomorrow.

The poll panel has allotted election symbols to a total of 88 political parties for the upcoming provincial and parliamentary elections.

Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav told the participants of the orientation programme not to doubt about the elections, according to a press release issued by the EC.

“Although we are witnessing new developments in politics, such developments will not affect the upcoming elections,” he said.

He told the participants that their PR candidates will be selected as per the priority order submitted by the respective parties.

EC Secretary Begendra Raj Sharma Paudyal said fielding PR list was technically complex and hence the parties should be careful while fielding the PR clusters.
