KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 25
The Election Commission (EC) has begun updating the voters' list from Thursday in preparation for the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5 next year.
Following the authentication of an ordinance to amend the Voter Registration Act, 2073 by President Ramchandra Paudel, the Commission started registering new voters. The registration process will continue until November 16.
According to the Commission's spokesperson, Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, Nepali citizens who are 16 years or older and possess a Nepali citizenship certificate can register at their respective provincial and district election offices daily from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., except on public holidays. However, newly registered voters will only be eligible to cast their votes once they turn 18, Bhattarai clarified.
The Commission has requested that citizens submit their biometric details to the relevant election office through the 'pre-registration' system on the EC's official website.
By November 2 this year, the number of citizens who will have reached voting age is expected to reach 18.68 million.
