KATHMANDU, JUNE 30
The Election Commission (EC) has announced the date for the by-election in Rupandehi Constituency No. 3.
In a press statement issued today, the EC stated that the by-election for the House of Representatives (HoR) seat in Rupandehi-3 will be held on November 3.
The seat became vacant following the passing of HoR Member Dipak Bohara on April 1. Bohara had been elected from Rupandehi-3 in the November 2022 general elections, defeating his closest rival, Bal Krishna Khand of the Nepali Congress (NC).
The by-election date was announced in accordance with Article 84(7) of the Constitution of Nepal, which stipulates that if the seat of a member of the HoR becomes vacant while more than six months of the term remains, the vacancy must be filled through the same electoral system by which the seat was originally filled, stated EC Spokesperson and Joint Secretary Nita Pokhrel Aryal.
In a separate notice, the Election Commission also announced that voter list registration would be suspended from July 1 until further notice, following the official declaration of the by-election date.
