Chief Minister of Gandaki Krishna Chandra Nepali Pokharel has said that the role of the Election Commission will be crucial to ensure the election is free and transparent.
Inaugurating a programme 'Improvement in election system' organised by Policy Research Institute with the coordination of EC and collaboration of Nepal Law Campus in Pokhara today, CM Pokharel opined that democracy would be strong if the election was conducted in a free and transparent manner.
He mentioned that it was indispensable to make the election economical so that the general public also could be candidates in the election. Stressing the need to make the Election Commission rich in terms of means and resources for its effectiveness, CM Pokharel pointed out the need to make the election system efficient, smooth and effective.
Similarly, Minister of Gandaki Dobate Bishwokarma said that representation of the people from backward and marginalised community in the government and other government bodies had been possible due to inclusive and proportional representation.
Executive Chair of the Policy Research Institute Bishnu Raj Upreti shared that the Institute would collect feedback and suggestion of the problems seen in the existing election system and recommend necessary solution to the bodies concerned.
Likewise, former election commissioner Nil Kantha Upreti expressed the view that both political parties and the EC should be responsible to make the election economical.
