Education sector’s results ‘below par’
Kathmandu, February 12:
Finance Minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat today said that the education sector, where investment is very high, has not been able to produce very good results.
Speaking at a programme organised by the West Regional School Committee (WRSC), Dr Mahat said: “We have invested Rs 24,000 million in the education sector, but the results have not been as expected. It is the government’s duty to lessen the “increasing disparity” between the public and private schools by maintaining uniformity in the quality of education.” “What is needed today is massive restructuring in academic, vocational and technical education.”
Janardan Nepal, director, Department of Education, said quality of education should not be judged merely on marks obtained in SLC exam. “It should also be judged by the manner in which one lives after receiving education.”
Tirtha Man Dangol, a member of the interim legislature, said: “A new vision is necessary to create a new Nepal and it is the duty of teachers to change the thinking of the new generation.”
