Efforts on to reopen Kodari Highway within a week

KATHMANDU: After the obstruction of Nepal-India border, efforts are made aggressively to reopen the Kodari Highway which has been obstructed repeatedly with dry landslides following the Arpil 25 Earthquake.

The Chinese Armed Force had reopened the highway for one-way traffic on the request of the Nepal government after the massive earthquake of April 25, which however was blocked with dry landslides.

Chief District Officer at Sindhupalchok Balabhadra Giri said the efforts are expedited to resume the blocked highway within a week. Heavy equipment are used for the clearance of the obstructions.

He added the boulders fallen on the road near Liping and Tatopani bazaar areas have been removed using explosives. Caution is maintained while blasting so as to keep safe the nearby settlements.

More than 10 places along the Bahrabise-Tatopani road sections have witnessed big landslides. The clearance of the obstruction is continued with the initiative of the Road Division Office, Charikot.

Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force are joining hands to clear the road.

"If the petrol suffices and the works go on as per expectation, it won't take five to seven days to resume the highway," he underscored.

He, however, said the extent of dry landslide can also determine how many days it would take to complete the work.
