Eggs worth Rs 185,000 destroyed in Ramechhap

Eggs worth Rs 185,000 from bird flu affected region were destroyed at the banks of the Tamakoshi River in Ramechhap on Wednesday.

Locals in Ramechhap had confiscated 90 cartons of the eggs procured from Prabhu Poultry Farm in Chitwan while being transported to Dolakha without quarantine clearance from veterinary doctors.

Locals who had intercepted the freight at Devkotachowk yesterday morning had turned it over to the District Police Office.

According to Mukund Kumar Khadka at Manthali Municipality Livestock Section, the eggs were destroyed in the presence of the locals and journalists. Locals had destroyed the eggs following the instruction of the municipality. The eggs had be destroyed since they originated from bird flu inflected region, according to the municipality authorities.

District Police Chief Santosh Bhattarai said they had stepped up  vigilance at all entry points of the district from Tuesday on the import and export of fowls and other related products.

“Any consignment without quarantine clearance and genuine documents won’t be allowed in or out of the districts,” said District Police Chief Bhattarai.
