KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 15
Eight person died and five others were critically injured in a road accident in Darchula district early this morning.
The incident occurred at 4:00 am when a jeep (Ma 1 Ja 338) traveling from Malikarjun Jatra to Gokuleshwor plunged into the Sirad River in Shailyashikar Municipality-5 of the district.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Prakash Dahal, the deceased have been identified as Birendra Rawal (30), and Shanti Rawal (28), of Shailyashikar Municipality-5; Dilip Bista (45), Mina Lekhak (35) of Shailyashikar Municipality-9; and Sanjib Bohora (15) and Birendra Singh Bohara, of Dilashaini-5 in Baitadi district died at the scene.
Additionally, two Indian nationals-Mohammad Safir (45), and Mohammad Basim(18), from Uttar Pradesh-also died in the accident.
Meanwhile, Uttam Rokaya of Dilashaini-5 of Baitadi, Sandip Rawal and Prakash Rawal of Shailyashikar-5, Jeep driver Sunil Joshi of Malikaarjun Rural Municipality-8 and Indian national Suhil Sah of Bijnaur in Uttar Pradesh have been injured in the incident.
The jeep was reportedly transporting passengers who had attended the Malikarjun Jatra, a well-known fair in the district.
All injured individuals were rushed to Gokuleshwor Hospital for treatment. The cause of the accident have yet to be determined along with the number of passengers that were on board the jeep at the time of the incident.
