MELAMCHI: An elderly man died after being swept away by the Chalse River at Duwachaur VDC in Sindhupalchok on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Kundo Tamang (72) of Banskharka VDC-5.

The incident occurred while he was crossing the river, the Area Police Office, Melamchi informed.

The incident is said to have taken place while he was returning home after collecting the first installment of house rebuilding grant from Melamchi.

Police informed that the grant amount of Rs 50,000 was recovered from his body.

The body has been brought to the Melamchi Regional Hospital for postmortem.
