Gaighat, October 24

A single elderly woman was subjected to inhuman treatment by her neighbours in Udayapur’s Udayapurgadhi Rural Municipality last night over a minor dispute.

Bhakta Bahadur Rai, his wife Garbhi and son Dev Bahadur forcibly fed 75-year-old Reshami Rai her own faeces in a dispute over the destruction of crops by her cattle, police said.

“There had been a dispute in early afternoon today after Bhakta Bahadur’s cattle strayed into Roshani’s field and destroyed the crops there. Later, Bhakta Bahadur’s family visited Reshami’s house and forced her to eat her own excreta,” said Inspector Lalan Kurmi at District Police Office, Udaypur.

The victim had later visited  the police office to file a complaint. The elderly was also thrashed mercilessly. She has injuries all over her body and is receiving treatment at Udaypur District Hospital.

A police team has been deployed to arrest the culprits.
