Elderly woman injured in protest over Ale’s death dies

DAMAULI: An elderly woman, who was critically injured after being hit by a tear gas shell fired by police personnel in Damauli of Tanahun district on Wednesday, died during the course of treatment at the Pokhara-based Manipal Teaching Hospital on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Suni Maya Shrestha (78) of Jamune-8.

The incident occurred when the police personnel deployed at a Damauli-based hospital lobbed the tear shells to disperse the protesters.

The demonstrators have been taking to the streets for the past one week demanding fair investigation into the death of Purna Bahadur Ale.

Ale, a permanent resident of Byas municipality-7, Manahun, was found hanging from a tree in the premises of the Bigyanchaur-based Adikavi Bhanubhakta Campus on Monday.

He had been temporarily staying at his sister’s home in Nirmalnagar-1.

A tenth grader at a local school, he was found dead, two days after he had left home for tuition class on Saturday morning.

Earlier on Wednesday, police had arrested two girls in connection to the incident.

It has been learned that one of the two girls was in relationship with Ale.
