Election code violation rampant in Birgunj

With the September 18 deadline for the third phase of the civic polls in Province 2 drawing closer, violation of election code of conduct has increased in Birgunj.

Federal Socialist Forum Nepal’s mayoral candidate Bijay Sarawagi for Birgunj metropolis was found to have violated the code of the conduct.

Despite the Election Commission’s ban on putting up pamphlets, banner at religious, cultural, and historical places, FSF-N today put up a party placard with its poll symbol at the health post located at Sugauli of Birgunj.

Similarly, in the election campaign of CPN-UML’s mayoral candidate Basruddin Ansari for Birgunj metropolis on August 29, the UML leader and former prime minister Madhav Kumar Nepal had donned a cap with the party’s election symbol (sun).

When Election Commission sought clarification regarding the violation of  the poll code of conduct, Nepal admitted his mistake, said Election Commissioner Ishwori Paudel at a programme today.
