EC chief asks govt to fix dates for next elections well in advance

Kavre, June 27

The Chief Commissioner of the Election Commission Ayodhee Prasad Yadav today asked the government to fix the date for the next elections well in advance.

“Fixing the election date early will allow us ample time for preparations, meaning there will be less technical errors during the election later,” said Yadav while addressing an election review programme in Dhulikhel, Kavre,  today.

Further, calling for an end to the trend of frequent deferrals of polls once the dates are fixed, the EC chief said, “It’s high time there was certainty about elections. If that’s not possible then let the EC decide the date on its own.” He also demanded that the commission be exempted from political interference.

The two-day election review programme witnessed the participation of regional and district election officers and district judges, chief returning officers and chiefs of the district security agencies of Province 3.
