ECN to ask govt for 2,18,000 employees for local polls

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission of Nepal has calculated that it needs a workforce of more than 2,00,000 people to conduct local level elections nationwide.

The ECN's Spokesperson Surya Prasad Sharma said 2,18,000 people need to be deputed to conduct the elections, scheduled for May 14, the Rastriya Samachar Samiti reported.

According to him, after the district election offices fix voting centres, the ECN will ask the government to provide with the human resources.

He said eight people, including five officials and three local volunteers, will be stationed at each voting centre.

Civil servants, employees in the government-own corporations and teachers of community schools will be sent to conduct elections, he informed.
