100 parties registered for the proportional representation system
KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 14
With 81 days remaining until the House of Representatives election, the Election Commission has intensified preparations, completing the registration of political parties for both direct and proportional representation systems.
The commission confirmed that 100 political parties have been registered to contest under the proportional representation system, following applications submitted between December 7 and 9. Due to multiple parties requesting identical symbols, only 93 election symbols were finalized.
A total of 114 political parties are set to contest direct elections under the first-past-the-post system. The commission has also begun calculating proportional representation quotas based on population, covering Dalit, indigenous, ethnic, Khas Arya, Madhesi, Tharu, and Muslim communities.
Meanwhile, political activities have increased nationwide, with parties intensifying election-focused campaigns. The commission is currently drafting the election code of conduct and collecting feedback from stakeholders.
