EC to verify RPP MPs, CWC members’ signatures

Kathmandu, August 11

The Election Commission today directed all central working committee members and lawmakers of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party to be present at its central office on Sunday.

The polls panel said it would verify the signatures submitted by the newly formed Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Democratic and inquire the CWC members and lawmakers whether or not they were favor of party split.

“We have asked all lawmakers and CWC members of the party to be present at EC on Sunday,” said EC Spokesperson Surya Prasad Sharma. He said the election body would decide whether or not to give recognition to the newly formed party after verification of signatures.

As per the constitution, support of 40 per cent lawmakers and CWC members is required to split a party. The RPP claimed that newly formed RPP-D did not have support of 40 per cent lawmakers and CWC members.

Of the existing 153 CWC members in the party, support of 63 members is required to split the party.

The RPP was formally split on Sunday after Pashupati Shumsher JB Rana registered a new party—RPP-D at the EC.
